Tri-State Super Spartan 2013

This past weekend the hubs and I woke up bright and early on a Sunday morning. Unlike normal people who were most likely waking up to a leisurely cup of coffee, we were prepping to tackle 8 miles of mud, ridiculous hills and obstacles at the Tri-State Super Spartan at Mountain Creek in Vernon, NJ.

For those of you who don’t know, Mountain Creek is a terrain park that features snowboarding & skiing in the winter, and water parks and dirt bike trails.

I’ve spent many happy days snowboarding down the slopes at Mountain Creek. On this particular day however, I wanted to throw up and die. Because climbing UP those damn slopes SUCK as much as riding down them is awesome.

Since we’ve spent the summer focused on training for the Newport Half at the end of September, the Super Spartan showed me how woefully I’ve been neglecting my strength training. I can’t lie, I had a hard time hoisting myself up those 7” walls. BUT I felt great running the trails.

My time wasn’t as great as I wanted it to be, but a large part of was me being super cautious on the downhill - the last thing I wanted to do was roll an ankle and hurt myself before the half.

I ran. I conquered. I wore my damn tutu. Aroo! Spartan warriors, Aroo! High-res
